What to bring to your family session.
Family pictures have a magical way of freezing those precious moments, creating lasting memories with family that we can cherish for years to come. They also have a reputation for being a stressful task that just needs to get done. To ensure a successful and stress-free photoshoot, it's essential to come prepared (especially when children are involved!). I've gathered a list of items to pack for your session that will make your family photos as stress-free as they can be. Be sure to keep reading until the end to learn the most important item you can bring!
1. Baby wipes!
If you have little ones, you know that messes can happen any time. From unexpected spills to sticky fingers, these versatile wipes are a must-have and not just for babies. They're perfect for quick clean-ups, ensuring everyone looks picture-perfect throughout the session.
2. Mess-Free Snacks and Water!
Nobody wants to get their picture taken while their hangry! To keep the hanger at bay, pack some mess-free snacks and water. Think of easy-to-eat treats like granola bars or crackers that won't leave crumbs behind. And don't forget water to keep everyone hydrated!
3. Extra Change of Clothes (for everyone!)
You never know what to expect with young children and an outdoor photo session. We will be running around and playing during our session, so be prepared by bringing an extra change of clothes for everyone in the family. This way, even if a spill or mud mishap occurs, you can quickly swap outfits and continue on with the session.
4. Touch up items!
Think hairbrush, lipstick, lint roller if you have pets, etc. After the car ride over and chasing your littles around during the session, you might want to take a minute during a snack break to ensure everyone's hair isn't getting too tangled or your lipstick hasn't worn off.
5. Comfortable Shoes!
Family photo sessions involve a fair amount of walking, posing, and playful activities. Make sure you and your family are wearing comfortable shoes to ensure everyone stays happy throughout the session.
6. Comfort Toy for Young Children!
Young children often find comfort in familiarity. Bringing along their favorite toy or stuffed animal can help them relax and feel at ease during the session. Plus, it adds personality and an adorable touch to some candid shots, capturing their genuine joy and happiness.
7. Sunscreen and Bug Spray!
If you've planned an outdoor family photo session, be sure to to pack some sunscreen and bug spray. Nobody wants to look back on their family sessions and remember them as the time they got so sunburnt or covered in mosquito bites (or even ticks!!). By prioritizing their comfort and safety, you can focus on creating beautiful memories during your family photos.
8. A Positive Attitude!
Lastly, the most important thing you can bring is a positive attitude to your family session. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry about how your children will behave, or if we will even get one good shot. Children are unpredictable, and it is my job to work with them to capture the images you desire. Going into your family session with the mindset of it being a fun experience capturing your family in this season of life, no matter what happens will make it a much more enjoyable session (and I promise it will show in your images!)
By bringing essential items such as baby wipes, mess-free snacks and water, extra clothes, comfortable shoes, comfort toys, sunscreen, and bug spray, you'll be fully prepared for a successful family photo session. And don't forget, the most important item to bring to your family session is a positive attitude so you can be present in the moment and enjoy the time spent capturing these moments with your family.
